Klára Šumová: Breakfast Table, 2009, Křehký
This inlaid spruce table is presented with an engraving in the marquetry that makes its natural wooden character come out. Klára Šumová had to take into account the interesting moment of wood shrinkage during manual production. On the one hand, she needed the wood to shrink fast so that the nods for the marquetry would fall out naturally; on the other hand, she needed it to shrink slowly so that it would not bend and the remaining nods would stay. The custom-made marquetry for each nod guarantees the originality of each piece.
